Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Not
only does it give you energy to start a new day, but breakfast is
linked to many health benefits, and here are a few of them.
1. Better Weight Control
Many studies, have shown that breakfast eaters tend to weigh
less than breakfast skippers.
A possible explanation is that eating a healthy breakfast can
reduce hunger throughout the day, and help people make
better food choices at other meals. While it might seem you
could save calories by skipping breakfast, this is not an
effective strategy. Typically, hunger gets the best of breakfast-
skippers, and they eat more at lunch and throughout the day.
2. Are All-Around Healthier
Many studies have shown that not only are breakfast-eaters
less likely to be obese, they're also more likely to have good
blood sugar levels and less likely to be hungry later on in the
day.
3. Feel More Energized
Eating a breakfast that's high in fiber and carbohydrates could
help you feel less tired throughout the day. Researchers found
that when people ate a high-fiber, low-carb breakfast, they had
more energy throughout the day compared with people who
ate a high-fat breakfast.
4. Have Better Cholesterol Levels
Skipping the benefits of breakfast can lead to an increase in
LDL (“bad” cholesterol) levels, according to a study by
researchers at the University of Nottingham in England.
5. Think Smarter & Remember Better
According to the American Dietetic Association, children who
eat breakfast perform better in the classroom and on the
playground, with better concentration, problem-solving skills,
and eye-hand coordination.
OTHER IMPORTANT FACTS
I. Please note that most studies linking breakfast to weight
control loss looked at a healthy breakfast containing protein
and/or whole grains -- not meals loaded with fat and calories.
II. Researchers found that eating a high-calorie breakfast
actually seemed to hinder concentration.
III. Don’t eat dessert for breakfast. Some cereals contain high
level of sugar and need to be taken with caution.
IV. Coffee has been linked to a whole host of health benefits,
from a decreased risk of depression to a lower risk of some
cancers and Type 2 diabetes. But be careful with coffee if you
have high blood pressure.
